Cash only! I must mention this first. No delivery either and this place is strictly take out. Saw locals coming and going so I am excited to enjoy this! 1. Waakye and stew with spaghetti with meat 2. Jollof and vegetable with fish 3. Peanut soup/okra soup 4. Fufu and Banku Service was great. I will phone it in next time to shorten the wait time. Quiet ambiance will lots of love and care going on in the kitchen!

I found Akwaaba on Yelp specifically because I was craving fufu. As it was my first foray into Ghanian cuisine, I definitely left satisfied. The vibes of the restaurant and the food itself felt as warm and comforting as a homemade meal. The space itself is mainly for takeout, so I would not recommend sitting as there is only one table available. We ordered the fufu with okra soup with goat ($25) and the jollof rice with meat ($20). The portions are quite generous and these two entrées were enough to feed four. I am a big fan of okra, and this soup was definitely hitting all those texture points but I did find the goat meat to be a little too gamey to handle. The fufu was soft and a little denser than I expected-- I always thought it had an almost whipped texture but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless. I also really enjoyed the jollof, which was seasoned well and what I would recommend to someone unfamiliar with West African cuisine.

Cash only, tasty, and authentic. Really designed for take out; this is not the place you sit down to eat at lol. I had the jollof rice with goat, which was prepared in about 15 minutes. Goat was well cooked; wish they gave a little more. Jollof rice was really flavorful. Prices aren't cheap exactly but they're reasonable.

Authentic Ghanaian food The food is great, I tend to get their jollof rice and goat. I've also tried their fufu and stews, and it's very good.

Come here for some fufu! Their okra stew definitely has a kick to it and can be quite spicy especially if you have very minimal spice tolerance. I suggest ordering ahead of time as I ended up waiting almost 30 minutes for my order to be done!

A friend and I visited Akwaaba on a recent spring evening. Though the lights were on, the door was locked and we didn't see anyone inside. We reached the owner via phone and he kindly came to the door and let us in. We sat at Akwaaba's one table and shared one of the dinner plates, which included a bowl of stew, lots of rice and peas, and vegetables. We tried one of the bottle malt beverages, too. The stew was tender and the Ghanain dinner delicious overall. If you're hungry I'd recommend one meal ($20+) per person.

This was my first time trying fufu and West African food in general, and I was not disappointed. The owner was the sweetest man who chatted with my friends and I. While the wait for the food was around 20 minutes, the soup was well worth it. The goat is gamey, but the okra was so well cooked I forgot how much I disliked okra on its own. The seasoning was so flavorful and paired perfectly with the soft fufu. Everything came to us hot and steaming, even after thirty minutes. We had ordered the fufu and okra soup with goat meat which was $25. The price was a bit steep, BUT this meal fed four people so it was very much worth it. The store itself was quite small, with little to no seating except for a couple of bar stools. However, this is no problem since the restaurant is so close to prospect park. Overall, the food was very good and I would recommend it to anyone who wants some authentic dishes in Brooklyn

For the last 6-ish years, Akwaaba Restaurant has been my favorite Ghanaian spot in Brooklyn. I only get one dish but I have never ever EVER been let down after ordering it: fried beef, Jollof, plantain, and a mixture of sautéed peppers, onions, and carrots. It's about $20 for this but the portion of Jollof and beef is large enough for me to split into 2 meals (once I add my own greens to it, because broccoli goes with everything lol). The food is spicy but so full of flavor that I don't mind. As far as the service, I am always happy to see that the chef / owner(?) is there and well. He's cool and really takes pride in the food, which is beautiful to see. The orders usually take a long time to be ready but it's worth the wait. So I recommend placing your order over the phone ahead of time because it's not really a dine-in type of spot. I love the food at Akwaaba Restaurant dearly and look forward to visiting whenever I'm in the area and have a craving for Jollof. I'd highly recommend ordering from here if you're craving it too.

Okra Stew w/goat meat and fufu: words can't describe how delicious this was! I've been craving this for over 20 years!! Mission Complete!! Definitely fulfilled my craving! Service: Excellent / above and beyond! Angel sent!! **Dated a guy from W.Africa in h.s.(parents cooked) and fell in love with the food (aka love potion). Been on a mission for this exact taste for 20 years (no joke) due to Seattle not having any W.African restaurants. My friend and I specifically went on a mission (yes we got lost and took an hour sub to get to this place) to find out they were closed. The owners (I wish I caught their names) felt for us and made sure we didn't leave empty handed. If I ever go back to NY this will be one of my first stops!!
